The Chicago Blackhawks committed $22 million to former Red Wings player Tyler Bertuzzi last summer with the hope that he could add goals and guts to their lineup this season.

Bertuzzi, 29, had been blanked in the goal production until Thursday when he netted a power-play goal to help the Chicago Blackhawks down the San Jose Sharks 4-2 in their home opener.

Despite Bertuzzi’s slow start, the Blackhawks are 2-2-1 on the season. Bertuzzi is playing on the second line with Taylor Hall (who also scored against the Sharks) and Philipp Kurashev.

Coach Derek Lalonde‘s Detroit squad lost the special teams battle and the game to the New York Rangers.

Neither Patrick Kane or Lucas Raymond have scored yet. The Red Wings are not scoring like they know they should.

Erik Gustafsson came back into the lineup against the Rangers, but it may be out again Saturday. He didn’t have a strong game.

Detroit (1-3) resumes action Saturday in Nashville (2 p.m., ET, Bally). The Predators are winless (0-4). The Red Wings rank 29th overall with a 2.25-goals per game average. The Predators, despite adding Steve Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, are averaging only two goals per game. Prospect report: Michael Brandsegg-Nygard doesn’t have a point in his first two games in the SHL this season, but he is making an impact. This video shows that.
