Creighton improves to 5-3-1 in Big East play as it remains in third place in the league standings, one point in front of Butler. Creighton is guaranteed to host a first-round match in the league tournament next Sunday. It’s the first time since joining the Big East in 2013 that CU will host a tournament game.
Before that, the Jays play their regular-season finale at St. John’s on Thursday.
“It’s a sigh of relief, but we know we earned it,” goalkeeper Alyssa Zalac said of earning a home match for the postseason.
Creighton scored with 55 seconds to take a 1-0 lead to halftime Sunday. Omaha Marian grad Mallory Connealy scored her first goal with CU following a long pass from fellow Marian grad Anna Bragg.
Butler scored twice in a nine-minute span for a 2-1 lead before Manriki lined in a shot from about 15 yards out.
