DES MOINES, Iowa – A misunderstanding involving some missing soccer goals has been cleared up between a youth soccer club and the Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department.

Sam Gabriel, co-founder and executive director of Genesis Youth Foundation originally posted on Facebook about the issue after noticing one of the sets of goals the foundation bought a few years ago was missing from Tower Park off of Hickman Road. In an interview with WHO 13, he said "For someone to just come and take the goal from here is very, I don't know how to react, but to be frustrated and angry."

Monday, the City of Des Moines contacted WHO 13 to provide more detail on the issue. A city spokesperson said the goals hadn't been stolen, they’d been removed by the Parks and Rec Department because it didn't know who owned them. The goals were chained together facing each other and the public couldn't use them. Prior to removing the goals, the department reached out to multiple local soccer organizations to try to find the owners.

The city says it will work with Genesis Youth Foundation to get the goals back to them and as long as they can be used by the public, the goals can remain at Tower Park.
