West Reading basketball exchange trip to Sacramento set for June 20
The West Reading Summer Basketball League will participate in the 51st edition of its annual exchange in San Francisco and Sacramento, Calif., from June 20-26.
Josiah Jordan of Berks Catholic and Jake Karnish of Fleetwood will serve as co-captains for the 10-player team.
Other members of the team, selected by a panel of high school coaches, referees, media and league officials: Jovan Hollis, Antietam; Aidan Dauble, Exeter; Reece Garvin, Exeter; Andrew Galantuomo, Gov. Mifflin; Mark Rajnath, Schuylkill Valley; Madyx Gruber, Wilson; Aidan Melograna, Wilson; and Danny Fleischood, Wyomissing.
Tony Balistrere, the former head boys coach at Holy Name and a former assistant at Albright College, will be the head coach. Assistant coaches are Jeff Ebner of Wilson and Randy Hinsey, the director of the West Reading Ron Krick Memorial High School League.
The West Reading team will travel to San Francisco and tour Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf, then go to the Sacramento area, where activities may include touring Old Sacramento and attending a Sacramento Republic USL game.
The team will play one game on June 21 and another on June 22, and interact with the host team, Franklin High School from Elk Grove. Calif.
Last year, Franklin High came to Berks to represent the Sacramento area.
West Reading then will compete in a 60-team tournament at Franklin High. It will play two games on June 23, two on June 24 and another on June 25.
