Men’s Basketball Set for Tilt at Southern Utah Saturday Evening - FIU Athletics

MIAMI — FIU's men's basketball program has its second-consecutive road test to begin the 2024-25 campaign, taking on Southern Utah on Saturday night.
The Panthers (0-1) match up with the Thunderbirds (1-0), out of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), in the first of two games this season as part of the WAC-CUSA scheduling initiative. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. MT in Cedar City, Utah.

FIU fell in its season opener at Rice, 77-70, on Tuesday evening in Houston. Jayden Brewer and Dashon Gittens both poured in 18 points to lead the Panthers' offensive effort. Travis Gray delivered an excellent performance off the bench with 15 points and eight rebounds.
FIU trailed 38-27 at the half, but mounted a furious second half comeback, pulling within three points down the stretch. The Panthers will look to parlay their late momentum in search of their first win of the season.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UTAH
The Thunderbirds defeated Western New Mexico University, a non-Division I opponent, 96-68. Jamari Sibley led the way with 18 points and had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Tavi Jackson chipped in 15 points in 19 minutes. Dominique Ford, Brock Felder and Hercy Miller each had 12 points.
This will be the first-ever meeting between FIU and Southern Utah. The Panthers fell to Utah Tech on the road and Tarleton State at home in last season's WAC-CUSA matchups.
